Barnardo's Mediation Service for families going through divorce or separation

Barnardo's are now offering a Mediation Service to families in the Southern Trust area. The service is free and is offered to families going through the process of divorce and separation. The service is confidentail and families will have the opportunity to engage in a voluntary process that uses an impartial, qualified mediator to help couples resolve disputes involving their children following divorce or separation.

The aim of the Mediation Service is to help parents and children create their own agreements rather than impose solutions and assist children and young people to maintain positive family relationships where possible. Barnardos mediators will work with parents to discuss and negotiate all of the issues relating to contact and residence matters.

The service is available to families who are not currently involved in court proceedings as Barnardos hope to negate the need for the involvement of the court in disputes which can sometimes be detrimental to good outcomes for children.

The service is offered at various Barnardo's facilities in the Southern Trust in order to make it easily accessible to families

Parents will be offered intake meetings to assess their suitability for mediation . Should it be felt that mediation is appropriate parents can be offered between 3 - 6 sessions to address the concerns identified.
