Yr 9 Alpha League final

ICD V Keady High School

Keady – 13
ICD - 5

The final of the Aplha League was played out in a closely contested game which unfortunately for ICD was not reflected in the final score line.

The game opened as a very close contest, but Keady took the lead and registered two early goals before ICD finally go off the mark. There was never to be any more than two goals separating the teams in the first period and Keady went in at the break leading 5-3.
ICD played convincingly in the first half and managed to set up some intelligent moves and create some valuable scoring chances; however it just looked like one of those occasions where luck deserted the girls and shots were falling short of the target.

In the second half there was everything to play for as only two goals separated the sides. It was Keady who were first to settle into their stride however, registering scores almost immediately. In praise of ICD the girls didn’t let their heads drop and kept playing until the final whistle. It was in the closing period that Keady stepped up a gear and really began to display their true potential which unfortunately ICD couldn’t match on the day.

ICD had solid performance throughout the team, but a special mention must go to Emma Rice who played up a year only being a Yr 8 student and gave a tireless effort as centre working and linking between defence and attack. Megan Bothwell also performed well and has shown great promise for the future.
Indeed all the girls played well and tried their best and this must certainly give the girls a hunger to train hard and progress one step further next year, but for now they will be enjoying a well earned break!

Northern Ireland Integrated Cup Final

Integrated College Dungannon 6
Strangford Integrated College 16

After a very sporting and fast flowing game ICD were defeated by Strangford College in the final of the Northern Ireland Integrated Cup Competition played at Lisburn Racket Club on Thursday 2nd February.

Strangford opened the scoring within seconds of the game starting and moved into a three goal lead before ICD got off the mark. ICD were showing initial signs of nerves on the big occasion but soon got into the rhythm of the game and settled down to the task in hand.

ICD were picking up a lot of possession especially through the hard working centre, Zoe Martin. Although the Dungannon side were enjoying a lot of the ball through the two wing players , Zoe Templeton and Christina Nicholl, Strangford defence were marking very closely and making it difficult for the shooters Zexia Shillingford and Jadye Grant to create scoring chances.

In defence for ICD Melissa Glackin and Nicole Mc Clelland were containing the Stangford shooters but some accurate passing from the out field players created a lot of valuable space which the scorers maximised on. In the final third of the game Kirsty Mc Dowell replaced Christina Nicholl at wing defence with a solid performance.

Congratulations to Strangford College on a comprehensive victory and credit to ICD on a very promising performance.
