Religious Education

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the requirement to take RE at the College?

In years 11 & 12 everyone gets the opportunity to study RE. They may choose one of the following courses.

    • GCSE Full Course
    • GCSE Short Course
    • COA Entry Level
    • Non Examined RE

What’s the difference between the GCSE Short Course and the Full Course?

The Short Course is shorter! – It’s taken on 2 periods per week – the Full Course has 4 periods per week. Both courses are GCSEs and will appear on your GCSE certificate alongside your other subjects.

Do I have to be ‘religious’ to take the course?

In a word – No! It’s more important that you are intrigued to study religious communities in all their complex reality and are interested in finding out why Christians believe in what they do.

What will I study in RE?

Both courses follow a similar core. There are four sections to each course:

    • A study of world religions.
    • The teachings of Jesus.
    • The beliefs and practices of the Christian Churches today.
    • Moral issues examined from a Christian perspective.

What can I expect?

Class-discussions, videos, role-plays and group-work. Be prepared to express your own opinions and listen to other people’s points of view.
