Integrated College Dungannon

Soccer - Mid Ulster U16 tournament
14 December, 2011

On Wednesday 7th December students from Integrated College Dungannon travelled to the Mid-Ulster Arena in Cookstown to take part in an under 16 soccer tournament involving four other schools. The boys went into their first game knowing a result against St Joseph's Donaghmore would put them in a good position for the remainder of the tournament. The game finished 0-0 with Dion Carroll hitting the post with a speculative effort. This solid result was followed by comfortable victories against St Joseph's Coalisland and Drumglass High thanks to a few goals from Gary Cairns. The team entered their final game against Aughnacloy College knowing a victory would secure the championship. Unfortunately, a poor first half saw ICD a goal down at the whistle. However, the team showed great heart in the second half, peppering the opposition goal forcing their keeper making some excellent saves. Dion Carroll managed to pull a goal back and the game finished 1-1. This left it a tie at the top with St Joseph's Donaghmore and ICD both on 6 points each. Unfortunately, St Joseph's had scored one more goal throughout the tournament and subsequently won the trophy on goal difference. The students involved from ICD can hold their heads high though as they did the college proud. All involved played well but special mentions should go to Dion Carroll and Gary Cairns. Well done to the whole team.
