Integrated College Dungannon

ICD Claim Netball League Title
15 May, 2012

The Year 9 girls' netball team at Integrated College Dungannon successfully completed an unbeaten league run to clinch the Cross-Community Netball League Title for the 2011-12 season. The girls had comprehensive victories over St Joseph's Donaghmore and Drumglass High School before setting up a league final play off with Fivemiletown College. The Dungannon girls took full advantage of having a home venue by getting on the score sheet early through some accurate shooting from team captain Mirza Moreno and Kelly Wray. The girls worked hard defensively, with some excellent interceptions from Eden Lavery and Joanne Walker. The Dungannon girls led by three goals at the half way point but knew they still had plenty of work to do to curtail the scoring threat from the Fivemiletown side.

From the restart the girls extended their lead to four goals which gave them a slight cushion and allowed them to relax into their own pattern of play. The four goal advantage remained until the end of the game running out 9-5 winners.

Tireless performances were produced from the hard working Ashley Nesbitt and Hannah Rice, while Chloe Donnelly stuck to her defensive duties and closed down her opponent at every opportunity.

Speaking after the final PE teacher, Deirdre McCarroll was extremely proud of the girls saying 'they have worked extremely hard throughout the year and have built on their experiences from last year. This is a very exciting team and with continued hard work they have a very promising future'.

ICD Year 9 netball team league champions are: Mirza Moreno (Captain), Eden Lavery, Ashley Nesbitt, Chloe Donnelly, Joanne Walker, Hollie Chambers, Lucy Donaldson, Hannah Rice, Rebecca Cheevers, Kelly Wray, Eimante Augustyte, Wictoria Kubicka and Kirsty Sturgeon.
